linkSunderland find agreement with new manager – Two-year contract ready to be signedLucas Sposito Sunderland are about to have a new manager taking charge, according to reports from the Italian media. CalcioMercato.it shows up with an exclusive story saying the Black Cats have an agreement with Raphael Wicky. They report that Sunderland and the coach have agreed to a two-year contract, with an option for another year should things go well. They add that Sunderland want to ‘start again’ with the Switzerland coach after a ‘nightmare season’ and failure to make it back to the Premier League. That will be the aim for the 47-year-old, who has been out of work since leaving BSC Young Boys in March. He had been in charge of the Swiss club since June 2022, and left them with a record of 51 wins, 20 draws and 17 losses in 88 games. Prior to his work there, he had managed FC Basel, the United States’ U-17 national team and Chicago Fire FC. Sunderland have been looking for a manager since the sacking of Michael Beale back in February this year. The club had assistant Mike Dodds as a caretaker manager in the final months of the season, and now managed to find their new boss a few weeks before the transfer window opens.

I don't think that he's 'the man' 😇 If he's not the man Gordon, what makes Still the man ? He's got a league title to his name, a cup win to his name, FC Basel are no mickey mouse team, do well in Europe time and time again unlike Riems. I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Only 12 teams in the SPL Les, does that mean Celtic are a poor team and Rodgers a poor manager. Don't get me wrong, he's not the guy I would have wanted or chosen, never heard of him. But he will be cheap, a yes man and he's out of a job, perfect 🤭 Yet again we have scraped the bottom of the barrel as no other coach wants to come or we're not paying the going rate 🙄

Still's still the man 'cos I was told so ages ago, as mentioned above, Ray, and I've never been right as far as 'knowing something' before everybody else . . . . ever, and I want to be right this time 😇

Looks as though we are going in to another week without a manager.
The club’s communications with supporters are awesome.

linkRaphael Wicky interested in becoming next Sunderland managerSunderland AFC News can now reveal, per Graeme Bailey, that Wicky is interested in becoming the next Sunderland manager. On Thursday, it was claimed that Wicky has agreed a two-year deal to take charge at the Stadium of Light this summer. Fabrizio Romano quickly played down those rumours; Romano says that Sunderland have not been in contact with Wicky and that he’s ‘not on the shortlist’ as things stand. Despite that, Sunderland AFC News understands that Wicky is keen on taking the job, and that owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is keeping his options open for the time being. Who Sunderland turn to next remains a mystery, though it looks like a swoop for Still could be on the cards.
Alan Nixon claims that Sunderland could ‘push the boat out’ for the 31-year-old over the weekend, in a bid to beat Lens to the appointment.

What is the problem?
Still supposedly has had enough of working in France and wants to manage in England - well Sunderland are in England last time I looked and no other English clubs have offered him a deal. Sunderland’s recent management record isn’t brilliant admittedly so I can only assume this is the sticking point. If Still is the genuine target then I hope he holds out for a complete rethink on behalf of board on playing and recruiting philosophy because the current philosophy is not viable going forward, if we are ambitious for promotion. The thing is, if we gain promotion then revenue from tv broadcasting would far out way revenue from from bringing kids through the ranks to sell for profit . . . TV rights would also be guaranteed, so no risk involved.

The problem is Les, Still is probably hanging out for a better club to manage.
If there's nowt available, he'll pick us in desperation and state we are the only club he wanted to come to.
Hull sack one manager (a guy I wouldn't mind for us) and get another manager pronto so he can settle in and see what he has at his disposal, That's what we should have done.

I really fear we put all our eggs in one basket, Still signs for another club and Mike Dodds Is given the job on a permanent basis.

EchoRene Maric latest as Sunderland's head coach search continues after Will Still decisionSunderland’s head coach search continues after Will Still withdrew from the running.Sunderland are still searching for a new head coach after talks with longstanding candidate Will Still broke down. Still had been on the Black Cats’ radar since they sacked Tony Mowbray in December last year, when the former was still in charge of French club Reims, yet the 31-year-old is now expected to take charge at Ligue 1 RC Lens despite talks with Sunderland and Norwich. The abrupt news means Sunderland are looking for an alternative, three-and-a-half months after sacking Michael Beale in February. Another candidate to replace Beale has been Bayern Munich youth coach Rene Maric, who was also a strong contender to replace Mowbray in December. Maric has impressed as Bayern’s head of coach development and playing philosophy, while he took charge of the club’s under-19s team during the 2023/24 season. The 31-year-old has previously worked as an assistant coach at Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and Leeds. Sky Sports reported this week that Maric remained one of several candidates to take charge at Sunderland, along with Still, yet Sky in Germany have claimed Maric is set to become part of Vincent Kompany’s first-team backroom staff at Bayern. Kompany was named Munich’s new manager on Wednesday, yet his backroom staff is yet to be confirmed. Belgian coach Floribert N'Galula looks set to join Kompany in Bavaria from Burnley, along with Middlesbrough coach Aaron Danks.
