I wouldn’t mind if we signed Evans from Newport. 17 goals this season already 😉

We'll be lucky to sign anyone in this window, we won't pay the wages required.
The owners want to do everything on the cheap, does not bode well I'm afraid.

linkMedical underway: Club finalise signing of Sunderland star Jewison Bennette after deal agreed - sourcesSunderland forward Jewison Bennette is undergoing a medical in Greece on Monday morning (29 January) as he finalises a move to Aris, sources have told Football Insider. The 19-year-old has jetted out to link up with the Thessaloniki-based club and put the finishing touches on a move to the Greek top flight. Bennnette will join Aris on an initial loan deal, with Football Insider revealing on Saturday (27 January) that he had agreed a temporary move away from Sunderland. The Costa Rica international had found himself down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light this season. He had made just two senior appearances in the 2023-24 season so far and was therefore keen to move away in search of regular first-team action. Bennette made five further appearances for Sunderland’s Under-21 side in Premier League 2 competition this term, notching one goal and two assists. He joined the Wearside club from Costa Rican side Herediano in 2022 and has made 20 senior appearances for the Black Cats, notching two goals and two assists. The winger is under contract at the Stadium of Light until June 2026 – with the club holding the option to extend that deal by a further year. Sunderland Bennette is already a fully-fledged Costa Rica international and has scored two goals in 13 total caps for his country. Aris sit fifth in Greece’s top flight this term while Michael Beale’s side are seventh in the Championship after he led his new side to a 3-1 win at home against Stoke on Saturday (27 January).

linkLeeds United to receive seven-figure fee as contract length revealedThe fee Sunderland will pay Leeds United for Leo Fuhr Hjelde has been reported as seven figures. The fee Sunderland will pay Leeds United for Leo Fuhr Hjelde has been revealed by reports from Norway. The 20-year-old defender is understood to be on his way to Sunderland for a medical ahead of a permanent move to the Stadium of Light from Championship rivals Leeds United. Michael Beale needs cover and competition at left-back after injuries to Dennis Cirkin and Niall Huggins. Hjelde, who can also play as a centre-back, spent time on loan at Rotherham United last season, playing 13 times for The Millers in the Championship, including a start against Sunderland at the New York Stadium. The deal to bring the player to Wearside was initially thought to be a loan move but it has now been revealed that Sunderland will pay a £1million to £1.5million fee to Leeds United for a permanent deal, and that Hjelde will sign a four-and-a-half-year deal his new club. 15 per cent of his next transfer fee is rumoured to be owed to Celtic. Norwegian journalist Arilas Ould-Saada said: "The Norwegian U21 national team player Leo Fuhr Hjelde (20) has agreed with Sunderland on a 4.5-year contract and will probably sign tonight, according to TV 2's information. Hjelde is undergoing a medical today and is being sold for £1million to £1.5million from Leeds United." Transfer Insider Fabrizio Romano also added: "Sunderland have agreed deal to sign Leo Fuhr Hjelde, Norway U21 left back has also accepted contract proposal. Fee will be £2million for Hjelde to join Sunderland, as first called by Telegraph — Leeds just gave the green light."

linkSunderland finally strike cheap deal to sign player – Selling club will keep ‘percentage of a future profit’As had been reported over the past few days, Romaine Mundle will be signing for Sunderland before the end of the transfer window. This comes from Sacha Tavolieri, who reveals on Wednesday a deal had been struck between the Black Cats and Standard Liège for the transfer of the young forward. A report on Tuesday explained that Sunderland the Belgian side were negotiating a fee of around €1.5-2m for the Englishman, but they had yet to shake hands on a deal. On top of that, DH added that some bonuses would be included once the base fee had been agreed on, which is now backed up by Tavolieri. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the journalist reveals that Standard Liège will be getting €2m, bonuses included, as well as ‘percentage of a future profit’. Therefore, if Mundle does well as Sunderland, like a certain Jack Clarke has done since his arrival, and he gets sold, the Jupiler Pro League side can get a nice chunk of money on top. It’s a gamble for the Black Cats, as the player didn’t exactly impress in Belgium, making a mere seven appearances in all competitions for the first-team, having joined them after refusing to extend his contract at Tottenham.

link£2m winger set to sign for Sunderland with Alex Pritchard closing in on Birmingham City moveThe latest transfer news ahead of deadline day with Sunderland set for a busy end to the trading period. The transfer deadline passes on Thursday at 11pm with Sunderland involved in several incoming and outgoing transfer deals ahead of a busy day. The Black Cats have signed Leo Fuhr Hjelde from Leeds United with the defender able to play left-back and centre-back, while Jewison Bennette has departed on loan. Here, though, we take a look at the main transfer headlines you may have missed today: Romaine Mundle is reportedly flying to the North East today for a medical at Sunderland. Mundle came through the youth academy at Tottenham Hotspur and signed his first professional contract with the club back in May 2021 before leaving to join Standard Liege last year. The player trained with Spurs' first-team squad at times during his time in London and made the match-day squad for a UEFA Europa League match against F.C. Pacos de Ferreira in 2021. However, during his time with Tottenham, the midfielder predominately played for the youth ranks in the team in Premier League 2 competition, scoring seven goals and providing four assists during the 2022-23 season. Mundle is primarily a winger comfortable playing off either flank. Mundle has made six appearances in the Belgian Pro League since joining Standard Liege last summer after signing a four-year deal. However, the player appears to be heading to Wearside on a permanent deal. It is understood that Sunderland have agreed a fee of around £2million with Standard for the winger. Mundle rejected a long-term deal to leave Tottenham for Standard Liege as the player wanted to play regular football but now, the highly-rated attacker. In terms of outgoings, Mundle's arrival will signal the green light for the exit of Sunderland attacker Alex Pritchard, with the former Norwich man set for a reunion with former boss Tony Mowbray at Birmingham City. It is understood that a medical is expected today ahead of a deal. His contract at The Blues is expected to be until 2026. The 30-year-old has six months left on his current Sunderland deal and was offered a new one-year contract, which was swiftly rejected with the player seeking long-term security. Pritchard then declared himself unavailable for last weekend's game against Stoke City.

linkSunderland now 'in talks' with 'electric' 26-year-old forward ahead of 11pm deadline Sunderland are looking to make a late move for one Premier League star. Sunderland have already added Romaine Mundle to their attack, while they also remain interested in signing a new striker before tonight’s deadline. With the likes of Mundle, Jack Clarke and Abdoullah Ba available, with Patrick Roberts to return from injury, it was unexpected that Sunderland would go in for another wide-player. However, Football Insider have now reported that the Black Cats are ‘in talks’ to sign Burnley winger Manuel Benson, after moves to both Leeds United and Southampton collapsed. Sunderland were previously eager to re-sign Amad Diallo, but their failure to do so appears to have led them to targeting Benson instead. Who is Manuel Benson? Manuel Benson joined Burnley from Royal Antwerp in 2022 and quickly became a fan favourite, earning himself a regular spot under Vincent Kompany as he netted eleven goals in the Championship. The Belgian played a key role in the Clarets’ promotion to the Premier League, scoring four goals in as many games at the end of the campaign. Benson has since fallen out of favour at Turf Moor though, starting only one game in the top flight and featuring for only 73 minutes all season. The ‘electric’ 26-year-old had been heavily linked with a loan move back to the Championship with Leeds United and Southampton, however reports have since surfaced that he was set to stay at Burnley. Sunderland Echo journalist James Copley has since claimed the rumour is ‘one to treat with caution’. Benson would certainly be an exceptional signing for the Black Cats, but it seems like a strange move so soon after bringing in Mundle. Benson is way too good to be settling for a place on the bench, while neither Roberts or Mundle would be happy to do so either. It would be a brilliant addition, but one that wouldn’t make much sense.
