linkLee Cattermole: Former Sunderland midfielder joins Dutch side VVV Venlo on trialFormer Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole has joined Dutch Eredivisie side VVV Venlo on trial in the hope of earning a permanent deal. Cattermole leaves after a 10-year association with Black Cats, joining former team-mate Jerome Sinclair in the Netherlands. The 31-year-old has also played for Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic in the Premier League. Sunderland thanked Cattermole for being a "great servant" to the club. "Sunderland is a special club and this decision has not been easy," said Cattermole, who was released by the League One club in July. "But I believe it is the right time to find a new challenge. "The football club, over my 10 years, has had some fantastic managers, staff and players and I have been lucky to be part of that." Known for his tough tackling, Cattermole has been shown 123 yellow cards during his career.

linkLee Cattermole joins Dutch side on trial after leaving Sunderland
Cattermole had his Sunderland contract terminated early. Lee Cattermole could move to Dutch football after leaving Sunderland earlier this summer. Cattermole had his Sunderland contract terminated with two years remaining on it, after a decade of service. The 31-year-old was strongly linked with a reunion with Steve Bruce, the man who signed him for both Wigan Athletic and Sunderland, at Sheffield Wednesday. But Bruce's defection to Newcastle United put to bed the speculation. And on Thursday, it was announced by VVV-Venlo, of the Dutch Eredivisie, that Cattermole had joined them for training. VVV wrote on their website: "(We) have agreed with each other that in the upcoming period it will be considered whether club and player fit together." NIEUW GEZICHT! Lee Cattermole (31) traint mee met de selectie. De club en Cattermole bekijken of club en speler bij elkaar passen. — VVV-Venlo (@vvvvenlo) August 15, 2019 The Limburg side recently signed one of Cattermole's former Sunderland teammates, Jerome Sinclair, on a season-long loan deal from Watford. Cattermole was rumoured to be among Sunderland's highest earners, and one they seemingly could not continue to afford for a second season in England's third tier.

I'm surprised that he hasn't been snapped up by at least a Ch/Sp side.
When fit, and his record is not the best in this respect, he is a very useful member of a squad.
Providing his agent has lowered the bar in terms of income requirements, he should be a useful addition for some team.
