It's a chalice as poisoned as any in the Game, as long as Mike Ashley is running things the way he does.
And whoever takes it on is either very stupid or very brave, or perhaps even very desperate.
Steve has shown his bravery by Managing Villa and Birmingham and both Sheffield Teams and this could, just, appeal to him except that I've never thought of him as that stupid.

Who wouldn't want to swap Sheffield Wednesday for Newcastle though? And it isn't as if Bruce has a reputation to build or sustain. Great move for him.

You can imagine all the interviews in the media if/when he got the job. Two top ten finishes, I believe

It's a job he has, reportedly, regularly turned down in the past.
Were I a betting man, my money would be on a NO from him.

link Bruce has asked for permission to talk to the Mags. IF he takes this on, he would be well advise to make certain that his 'compo in the event of dismissal clause' is watertight. (I still think that when he will turn it down when he reflects on the stress of working for MR A).

He's got the job
Just why? Really why? His top flight record is utterly appalling

He has been promised money to spend - I would have a clause in the contract to the effect that if money doesn't materialise he can walk.

It's a dam good job that I aint a betting man, else I'd have taken a real hammering over the past five days. To be fair to him he has said, in the past, that it's a job he'd like to do one day. I hope he lasts that long.

From BBC App:
Newcastle United have appointed Steve Bruce as their head coach on a three-year contract.
Former Sunderland manager Bruce, 58, resigned as Sheffield Wednesday boss on Monday following talks with the Magpies at the weekend.
Newcastle have been without a manager since Rafael Benitez left when his contract expired in June, saying the club "did not share his vision".
Bruce was born near Newcastle and was a boyhood Magpies fan.
"There is a huge challenge ahead of us, but it's one that my staff and I are ready for," said Bruce. "This is my boyhood club and it was my dad's club, so this is a very special moment for me and my family."
Lee Charnley, managing director at Newcastle United, said: "Steve knows what this club means to supporters and to the region and he will put his heart and soul into leading our talented group of players with the full support of our staff."
