When we were relegated from the Championship a banner was held up saying "The Worst Team in the clubs history" which supposedly upset Honeyman so much.
This team, the whole of this season was even worse.
We finished 5th in the 3rd tier and that position flattered us, frankly - the lowest position in the clubs history.

I'm reading lots this morning that Ross has done well in his first year as SAFC manager, bringing the club back to the supporters blah de blah. Well no he hasn't, Stuart Donald and Charlie Methven are responsible for that.
In his first transfer window Ross brought in Ruiter, possibly the worst goalkeeper I have seen in a Sunderland shirt or any club shirt for that matter.
The back four, though Ross has chopped and changed this regularly have been our Achilles heal all season as none of them apart from Oviedo and O'Nien, who is a midfielder have been good enough. The fact Ross couldn't decide on his best defensive pairings just go to prove how badly he bought in both transfer windows. Loovens? What what his purchase all about? Desperation, that's what.
Midfield Is packed with players who are all too similar and lack flair, height and creativity and drop back to hold on to a 1-0 lead on every occasion. Now if that's being coached in to them then the buck stops at Jack Ross' door.
Up front . . . Who knows? as none of them were given a fair crack of the whip. None of our strikers, including Wyke are sole striker/target man yet that is what has been asked of them all season long! No two strikers have been allowed to build up a relationship which must be soul destroying in training and even worse on match days when you go in to a game knowing you will be running your arse off for the slimmest of pickings.
The January window came and went with our best striker by far being sold and Will Grigg brought in for around £3m. Personally I don't know if Grigg is a better striker than we have seen on the pitch because I don't feel he has been given the right support to show us fans what he is capable of.
Ross will be manager on the first day of the next season so I really hope he has identified his targets, gets in early to avoid competition and sorts out the defence as a top priority. Come September when we are in to the new season and the transfer window has slammed shut, we will be able to gauge just how good or bad he is at player recruitment. If he can't look beyond the comfort of Scottish clubs then I will be concerned. Ross' first two windows have left me cold.

Ross has done a lot wrong but he didn't bring in Ruiter.
I also am not a fan of Ross but he didn't have much to play with in August.
He should, however, be criticised for making honeyman captain and for his negative tactics.
