Kristjaan Speakman sets Sunderland asking price for Trai Hume after £7m bid rejected
Sunderland defender Trai Hume is a man in demand this summer.
Sunderland and Northern Ireland defender Trai Hume has seen several transfer links emerge following what was another standout season in the Championship.
The 22-year-old featured in all 46 of Sunderland’s Championship games and lead the division for tackles attempted and successful tackles.
Since, the former Linfield man has been linked with Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Napoli.
But it’s Turkish giants Galatasaray who have tabled the first bid for Hume, coming in with a £7million offer.
That offer has since been rejected, with journalist James Copley suggesting that Galatasaray should at least double that figure.
Hume is under contract until 2027 and is one of many Sunderland players wanted this summer, who’s also under longer-term contracts.
Sunderland are under no immediate pressure to sell the versatile defender but sporting director Kristjaan Speakman has now set the asking price for Hume this summer.
Sunderland were swift to reject Galatasaray’s opening £7million bid for Hume.
But now, journalist Michael Graham has revealed that Sunderland would ‘start to consider’ offloading Hume if an offer of £10million came in.
Graham went on to confirm Galatasaray’s rejected bid for the Northern Irishman and suggested that the Turkish outfit could soon return with another offer for Hume.
The real value of Trai Hume at Sunderland amid Galatasaray link
Sunderland fans will scoff at this latest £10million valuation of Hume, which comes from a very credible source, and so we can assume that Speakman and Sunderland really do think Hume is worth that amount.
Hume’s links to Turkey come amid a wave of interest in Sunderland’s young stars; Jobe Bellingham, Jack Clarke, Anthony Patterson, and Dan Ballard are all in transfer headlines right now.
And more often than not, there’s a £20million price tag mentioned, or a fee a lot closer to £20million than this latest £10million figure for Hume.
Perhaps being a defender and not a goal-scorer makes a player slightly less valuable.
But Hume barely put a foot wrong for Sunderland last season, showcasing his incredible defensive record on the right and also playing across the back-line, again not putting a foot wrong, whenever there were injuries.
Taking him out of the side would have as much of an overall impact as taking someone like Clarke or Bellingham out, so logic suggests that Hume is another £20million player at the Stadium of Light.
What happens next remains to be seen. But this latest link may certainly worry Sunderland supporters.
