Fresh Jack Clarke price tag at Sunderland emerges as new club joins transfer race
Luke Phelps
A new price tag for Jack Clarke has now been revealed, as the list of clubs interested in signing the Sunderland man grows.
Jack Clarke, 23, enjoyed another stellar campaign with Sunderland in the Championship, scoring 15 goals and assisting four more in 40 appearances.
The former Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur man has had Premier League suitors for the past year now with Burnley having seen bids rejected for Clarke last summer.
There was interest in Clarke once again in January with Lazio linked with a surprise move, as well as reports crediting the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham with an interest.
Clarke is under contract at the Stadium of Light until 2026 and is widely expected to be among the players leaving Wearside this summer.
Now, a new club has joined the race for Clarke’s signature, with a new and improved price tag revealed too.
Wolves join race to sign Jack Clarke at Sunderland
An emerging report from GIVEMESPORT has revealed that Wolves are now interested in signing Clarke from Sunderland this summer.
The same report also reveals the Black Cats want between £25-30million for Clarke this summer, following previous reports that the club were ready to part ways with the player for £20million.
However, Wolves are ‘unwilling to spend more than £20million’ on Clarke, so what comes of this emerging Wolves interest remains to be seen.
Crystal Palace and West Ham are thought to have retained an interest in Clarke; Palace especially after losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.
The Jack Clarke problem that Sunderland may encounter this summer
After fending off interest in Clarke last summer, and then watching him go and put in another quality season in the Championship, it seems inevitable that the Black Cats will have to part ways with the player this summer.
Especially so given his contract situation as next summer, Clarke would be in the final year of his deal, and Sunderland would likely have to accept any bid that comes in, which may not be near their asking price.
Whether or not Sunderland think they can realistically claim £30million for a Championship player remains to be seen.
But slapping a £30million price tag on his head sends a warning to clubs that Sunderland won’t let Clarke go for measly money this summer.
At the same time, however, this emerging £30million price tag may serve as a complete deterrent to a lot of clubs, and it could mean that Sunderland don’t entertain any offers at all for their star man.
Kristjaan Speakman will surely want a sale sooner rather than later, so he can give Regis Le Bris some spending money.
