I have been thinking about this a lot and basically the first team model makes no sense.
Dreyfus wants to make money by buying kids, improving them and then selling on at a profit. I have no problem with that other than why do they need to play in the first team, where frankly they aren’t experienced or good enough. Surely that’s the role of the academy and under 21’s? If they improve then they will progress to the first team naturally and the first team will benefit.
Buying young kids and expecting them to perform well in the first team from the off is unfair on the kids and unfair on the first team players.
Our buying has to be a mix of kids “for the future” and experienced players to improve the first team now.
