echoSunderland monitoring major Jack Clarke injury concern ahead of crucial run of Championship fixturesSunderland fear that Jack Clarke may be facing a spell on the sidelines with an injury issue Sunderland are monitoring Jack Clarke amid concerns that the winger could be facing a spell on the sidelines with a foot problem. Clarke was in visible discomfort for large spells of the 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City, receiving treatment after scoring his team's opening goal. The winger had shortly before that effort caught his foot in between the goal and the advertising hoardings at St Andrews, hobbling away to rejoin the action. He had also taken a knock early in the team's previous fixture, when he was fouled in the early stages of the defeat to Huddersfield Town. The winger told the coaching staff he was OK to finish the game at Birmingham, though he did still appear to be somewhat affected by the issue. Then head coach Michael Beale said he was hopeful that there was no significant issue, but the winger has been receiving treatment at the Academy of Light this week and has not been able to train with the group. The 23-year-old is at this stage looking highly unlikely to feature against Swansea City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday and there are now real concerns that his involvement in the crucial week of fixtures that follows is in doubt. With Patrick Roberts out until the March international break, it leaves interim head coach Mike Dodds with a major challenge to keep the club in the play-off spots. A full injury update will be provided at the club's pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

safcJack ClarkeSunderland AFC winger Jack Clarke is set for a spell on the sidelines. The 23-year-old sustained an ankle ligament injury during the Club’s trip to Birmingham City and he subsequently missed last weekend’s fixture against Swansea City. Further assessments of the injury have now been completed, with the winger expected to be out of action for up to six weeks. The Club’s leading scorer with 15 goals and four assists, Clarke will now undergo a period of rehabilitation before an anticipated return to training in April.

linkClarke has potentially played his last game for SunderlandSunderland have a number of players attracting Premier League interest ahead of the summer; Dan Neil, Pierre Ekwah, and Anthony Patterson are among them. But Clarke is the one with the most heat in the rumour mill and with this injury potentially sidelining him until the summer, we may well have seen the last of Clarke in red and white. Spending the next six weeks out could rule Clarke out until the middle of April, with the 2023/24 Championship campaign ending on May 4th with a home game vs Sheffield Wednesday. Of course, if the Black Cats earn a spot in the play-offs then their season will go on a little longer, and Clarke could return for what would be some crucial play-off matches. But a top six finish now seems unlikely and so for Clarke, it’ll really be a race against the clock to feature for Sunderland once more. And if we don’t see Clarke playing for the Wearside outfit again then fans will certainly have plenty of memories; he’s blossomed into a top young player and in a few years, or even less, we could see Clarke strutting his stuff in the Premier League and beyond.

I cannot see any club wanting Neil or Patterson, take the money if decent offer.
