Next up . . .
I think the Mags will bring back several players from injury and I don’t think our players will be able to handle the cauldron of atmosphere in the stadium. None of them have played in a similar atmosphere.
I would love to be proved wrong 🫣

The mags have been short of form lately but Eddy Howe would find life very difficult if his team were to loose to us.
Fingers and everything else crossed for a Sunderland win though.

SAFCMichael Beale's programme notesWelcome back to the Stadium of Light for our FA Cup third-round tie against Newcastle United. I’d like to welcome Eddie Howe, his players and staff to Wearside for the first Wear-Tyne derby since 2016. When the draw was made, this game was immediately one that caught the attention of the whole country as the tie of the round, and highlights the importance of this great rivalry to English football. It’s the magic of the FA Cup that has provided us with this game. Seven years is far too long a gap since the last fixture, and you can really feel that within the city as the excitement and anticipation has grown over the past few weeks. The players who experience this game today are the fortunate ones as many have gone before them who haven’t had the experience of playing in a derby. Our young team will need to be at their very best today, and we know you’ll be right behind us throughout with your incredible backing from the stands. Our last home game against Preston was very pleasing – not only did we claim an important win, but it was our second clean sheet in three games. We scored two great goals through Nazariy Rusyn and Alex Pritchard, and it was brilliant to see Aji Alese return to the team for the first time this season. The game also brought an end to a busy festive period and to finish it inside the top six was a reward for the players’ efforts and performance levels. January is going to be a key month for us to continue the good momentum and hopefully that begins with a positive result today. We know how much this game means to you all and we’ll be doing everything we can to win the tie. Thank you for your support, Michael

SAFCWear-Tyne derby at Stadium of LightSunderland take on Newcastle United in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup. The game will be the first Wear-Tyne derby clash in eight years and the 157th meeting between the two sides. Here is all you need to know ahead of the game… Opposition Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United currently sit ninth in the Premier League table after 20 games in the league so far. The month of December saw the Magpies lose four of their six games in the league whilst also exiting the Champions League at the group stage and the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stage. Alexander Isak is the club top scorer this season with 11 goals in all competitions closely followed by Callum Wilson who has notched eight goals in the current campaign. Howe was appointed as the manager in November 2021 succeeding former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce. The 46-year-old steered the club away from relegation in his first season at St James’ Park before securing a top four finish in the following campaign. Away from their Tyneside home, Newcastle have won just two games on the road in all competitions this season beating Sheffield United in the Premier League and Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. Sunderland’s last victory of the Magpies came in 2015 winning 3-0 at the Stadium of Light under the stewardship of Sam Allardyce. The Lads have not lost a derby clash since August 2011. Team News Patrick Roberts will be assessed before the game after being forced off in the draw against Rotherham United through injury. Dennis Cirkin continues to work his way back to full fitness and has been involved in training with the first-team. Niall Huggins is unavailable for the remainder of the season after suffering a significant knee injury. Club captain Corry Evans is continuing his rehabilitation from a long-term knee injury.

Obvious that we're going to get beat, we're not even on the same level, are we? They've got better players and are playing at a higher level, it doesn't take being Einstein to work out that they'll win.
So let them celebrate beating a bunch of teenagers, and dine out on it for years to come.

Just think back to Stevenage 😄 We have nothing to lose, they are odds on to beat us comfortably and if they don't that will be a bad let down to the Scum support, they will say differently of course, but believe they are looking for a routing. ECHOFabio Borini has arrived in the North East ahead of Saturday's FA Cup clash between Sunderland and Newcastle United.James CopleyPublished 5th Jan 2024, 20:16 GMT Former Sunderland hero Fabio Borini has arrived in the North East ahead of Saturday's derby clash between Wearside and Tyneside. It will be the first time in nearly eight years the two clubs have faced each other - when they played out a 1-1 draw at St James' Park in March 2016 - with local pride on the line. Sunderland haven't lost in their last nine games against Newcastle United with Borini providing some of fans' best derby moments over the years. The Italian scored the winner at the Stadium of Light in a 2-1 victory back in 2013. Later that season, Borini then netted a penalty at the St James' Park to help Sunderland to a 3-0 win on Tyneside. The 32-year-old attacker, who left Sunderland back in 2018, is now with Italian club Sampdoria but has been spotted in the North East ahead of Saturday's derby. His wife, Erin Borini, posted a video of the pair ironically driving through Newcastle with the caption, "Hawayyyyy the lads. Ready for tomorrow!" Borini scored 17 goals in 93 appearances during his previous spells at Sunderland between 2013 and 2018, after initially signing for the club on loan from Liverpool, including a goal at Wembley against Manchester City. Since leaving Sunderland, Borini has played for AC Milan, Hellas Verona and Faith Karagümrük and is now under contract with Serie B side Sampdoria until the summer of 2025. His former clubs also include Chelsea, Liverpool and Swansea City as well as Sunderland.
