Roker Roundup: Midfielder ‘agreed terms’ with Sunderland on deadline day - but move fell through
Sunderland were linked with a move for Hastings United midfielder Adam Lovett back in September - and that interest was actually followed up with a permanent transfer back in January which broke down at the last minute.
Hastings revealed on their official website that terms had been agreed with Sunderland that would see Lovatt move to the North East, but due to there not being enough time for the player to complete a medical, the transfer fell through:
Kimpioka on homesickness
Sunderland forward Benji Kimpioka has had a quick rise through the ranks at the club and that is continuing at international level with the 19-year-old in his country’s under-21 squad for their game against Russia later today.
It hasn’t always been a smooth ride for the youngster though, as he told his local newspaper UppsalaTidningen back in Sweden that he suffered terribly with homesickness early into his spell with the club:
Getting abroad to play football was like a dream - the first few weeks. After a month, the homesickness hit. I missed the family and friends. In my spare time I was just sitting in the room and playing video games.
I kept it to myself but it went over and I will not complain. I live my dream and have had many friends in the club.
Now he has overcome that problem, he says he is grateful for his chances in the first team and plans to fight for more:
I’m very grateful to have had the chance in the first team, now it’s just to fight on.
Sunderland were due to play an away game at Fleetwood Town tomorrow before international call-ups meant the game had to be pushed back to Tuesday, April 30.
That decision has left Fleetwood striker Paddy Madden fuming as it was a game his family had booked as a rare visit to see the forward play:
I live away from all of my family, so it is just me , my missus and my dog! Thankfully my family is coming over from Dublin this weekend and I get to spend a few days with them.
My mam and brother are booked for the Sunderland game, so I’m fuming it is off.

Adam Lovett has been of particular interest to Clubs, and representatives of Clubs, as was Davide Rodari before his long term injury from which the Club are delighted he is just back. In fact the Club had reached agreement with Sunderland AFC for the sale of Adam Lovett on the last day of the latest transfer window but unfortunately the transfer could not be finalised due to difficulties in getting Adam’s medical completed before the window closed and without the medical the EFL did not have it in their power to rubber stamp the proposed transfer.
Obviously the situation was a disappointment to both Adam and the Club and the Club think it is a credit to Adam in terms of how he has buckled down to his football since his disappointment. The Club is sure that Adam will get his wish of getting into full time football, maybe at the end of this season, as the Club are aware of a number of full time professional Clubs that are watching Adam on a regular basis.
