Watching the snooker, a player potted a red and then snookered his apponent behind a colour. I played snooker for years and always thought you couldn't do this. Or was it behind a free ball, it's been that long 🤔🙄

Surely if you pot a red you are still at the table?

If you pot a red, even on a free ball, you can't be 'snookered' behind a coloured ball, because your next shot has to be for a coloured ball! You can only be snookered behind a red in that circumstance.
Nothing to stop your next shot being to roll up behind a colour, to touch it, thus snookering your opponent.

Thinking about it further Poly, I think, I was thinking about a free ball, don't think you can nominate a colour and then roll behind it to snooker your opponent.

That would be perfectly legal and even good tactics, PROVIDING the object ball, (the white to you and me), made some contact with the nominated coloured ball. While I'm sure I'm right I should point out that my regular weekly game, (currently postponed), adopts a set of 'friendly rules' that change on a regular basis depending how much trouble the awkward sod who thinks them up, is in.
