I remember being told Burnley were 'ambitious' and leaving us behind. They're now in an absolute mess and, with the season already started, have absolutely no idea what their next team will be. I'm enjoying watching us now and, despite the inevitable defeats, feel like the club, players and fans are all in it together. That's obviously despite the terminally miserable bunch who either moan about the same old things or, if they're resolved, find new things to moan about. I get tired of being told, before every match, 'this will be a tough game' as if we shouldn't be enthusiastic ahead of the game. That's half the fun for hell's sake As you might guess, my glass is always half empty regarding Sunderland 🤣. Supported them for over 60 years and they always seem let me down 😒 apart from 73 and the recent playoffs, and you will also notice I never back them, for when I do they seem to get beat🤑 it's not that I don't believe they'll win ☺️

This is all interesting stuff and it seems the club are taking all this quite calmly. It seems the days of Sunderland being bullied, in the transfer market, are over. Cannon knows the division and would fit straight into RLB's high pressing game imo. I still believe Mendy will come so that gives up the right options for different games and situations. It's all looking good. I am more confident at this stage of the season than I have been in a long time. As you know Les, I was confident for last season, hence buying my season ticket again, look where that got me , after watching the last few games I am quietly confident, but keeping stum

roker reportReport: Sunderland in talks to sign Ghana international Salis Abdul Samed from RC LensReports coming out of France claim Sunderland are in talks to sign Ghana international Salis Abdul Samed from RC Lens on loan — could he be our Pierre Ekwah replacement? Sunderland are progressing towards a loan of Lens’ defensive midfielder Salis Abdul Samedi, according to reports in France. L’Equipe say the midfielder is in talks over a loan deal to the Stadium of Light, with the talks ‘progressing positively’. The midfielder had been in the sights of Saint Etienne but a foreign club nipped in ahead of them, which meant Saint Etienne then targeted Pierre Ekwah, as we mentioned yesterday. Samedi is a full Ghanaian international and featured 35 times in all competitions last season but has yet to play a minute so far this campaign.

linkSunderland near loan agreement for Lens’ Salis Abdul SamedAccording to a report by L’Équipe, Sunderland AFC are nearing an agreement with RC Lens to sign Salis Abdul Samed (24) on loan. The midfielder would be joining the English club for the season without an option to purchase. Abdul Samed had been in the shop window for Lens this summer with multiple French clubs interested in making a deal for the Ghanaian international who has been placed in the “loft” by the new manager Will Still. FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Étienne had all been linked with a move for the out-of-favour midfielder. However, instead, it appears as if the midfielder will likely be leaving France for England. Sunderland’s talks with Lens progressing L’Équipe notes that a full agreement has not yet been reached for the midfielder, but negotiations are progressing well for a midfielder who played 39 times across all competitions last season, including during the club’s foray into the Champions League and the Europa League.

Roker ReportAlexandre Mendy to Sunderland is OFFIn news that I am sure will shock absolutely nobody, it looks like Sunderland have pulled out of any potential deal over the signing of Alexandre Mendy. Ouest-France are reporting that the deal for Alexandre Mendy to join Sunderland is off. They say that Mendy has decided to stay with Caen and, as such, will return to training on Thursday morning. Despite his best efforts to engineer a burgeoning move to Wearside, the 30-year-old forward will not be leaving France this summer. Sunderland have been linked with a host of other forwards over the last week or so and also brought in Wilson Isidor from Zenit St Petersburg, a big hit to Mendy’s hopes of making a move across the Channel to join Régis Le Bris’ French revolution. The report states: Let’s see what else is in store over the coming days — it should be fun!

He just used Sunderland as a leverage to get a better deal probably. TBH we never really pushed the boat out to get him, offered a pittance.

link£12m Sheffield United target set for Championship transfer move as Sunderland strengthen promotion bidDanny Hall Sunderland nearing signing of Sheffield United-linked defender as Black Cats strengthen promotion pushChris Mepham, the £12m Bournemouth signing who was formerly a target of Sheffield United, is set for a loan deal as one of the Blades’ Championship rivals strengthen their promotion bid. The Welsh international has admirers at Bramall Lane, having worked with Alan Knill and Jack Lester in the Welsh set-up, but is set for a loan move to Sunderland. United were linked with Mepham again this summer amid uncertainty over the futures of defenders Anel Ahmedhodzic and Auston Trusty, who is nearing a move north of the border to Celtic. He has played more than 100 times for Bournemouth since his big move from Brentford five years ago, but has struggled for game-time of late and recently opened up about his desire to play more first-team football - even if it meant a move away from the south coast. Trusty’s imminent departure, if confirmed before 11pm, will leave United light in defence, with Jack Robinson their only other senior left-footed centre-back. Boss Chris Wilder has previously been keen to sign a left winger, more competition in midfield and a pacy forward capable of running in behind, but any departures in defence may see his priorities reassessed before the window slams shut tonight.

linkSunderland given boost in Gift Orban pursuit as Lyon seal Wilfried Zaha moveSunderland are currently exploring the possibility of signing Lyon striker Gift Orban in a loan move, and any chances of doing so could be made easier after it was revealed, per Fabrizio Romano on X, that Lyon had ‘sealed’ a move for Wilfried Zaha from Galatasaray. This could potentially open up an opportunity for the 22-year-old to leave on loan before the deadline. The Nigerian striker scored just one goal in 13 Ligue games for Lyon last season. Regis le Bris will be able to get the best out of Gift OrbanWhilst looking to sign Orban is certainly very audacious from Sunderland’s point of view, the French club certainly will be aware of the impact that Le Bris could have on the attacker, as he was so crucial in the development of Lorient’s youngsters during his tenure at the Ligue 1 side. Le Bris has already looked to get the best out of the current youthful Sunderland ranks, and there is no doubt that Orban can follow suit, especially after he showed his qualities in the Jupiler Pro League previously, where he was described as a ‘phenomenon’ from Gent coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck, per Score Nigeria.

linkSunderland hold talks with Genk for the signing of Genk forward Ahmed AbdullahiAfter a transfer fiasco that appears to have taken up large amounts of Sunderland’s summer window with the endless pursuit of Alexandre Mendy, Sunderland appear to have targeted an alternative attacker. Per Fabrizio Romano on X, Sunderland have reportedly ‘sent a bid to Gent’ for Nigerian striker Ahmed Abdullahi, with ‘talks ongoing’ to secure the striker. 20-year-old Abdullahi has seven caps for Nigeria U20’s and has mostly applied his trade at youth level. Senior football has been mainly limited for the youngster, with him being handed just one minute of action so far for the Genk first team. Will Ahmed Abdullahi be able to provide an immediate impact at SunderlandWhilst on the surface it seems as if Abdullahi will struggle at first team level after hardly being handed an opportunity, at youth level the striker has been absolutely incredible. The Nigerian bagged an incredible 21 goals in 28 games for Genk’s youth side, showing that he has the abilities to score in front of goal, something that could be massive for the Black Cats if it translates into first team football. It would certainly be a risk if he is being brought in as Sunderland’s main striker, however a deal to bring the youngster in as a back-up striker is certainly a shrewd one from the Black Cats, and one which will likely pay dividends in the future.

I wouldn't want a 'drop in level' to what his became . . . . he went for the coin when he was already a multi-millionaire and a supporter of human rights, and I definitely wouldn't want to be associated with him at the level that he chose to be at

Sources say the midfielder would welcome a return to his boyhood club despite the drop in level it would represent, as he believes he could play a crucial role in their promotion push Oooooooo touchie subject to some me thinks 🤔 I personally would welcome him back, his experience would help us and the young lads no end. My opinion is that the lad has every right to go and get a last money earner, I would hazard a guess, more people than not would do the same. I can't criticise the lad having worked in Saudi and Bahrain for a number of years myself. Think he's got more heat about it than he deserved. There wasn't a big hullabaloo about England going to and playing in Qatar.
