linkSunderland hand trial to former Stoke City gemAccording to journalist Alan Nixon, the Black Cats have given former Stoke City goalkeeper Blondy Noukeu a trial. The Cameroonian joined the Potters academy in 2019 but failed to make a senior appearance for them before he was released at the end of the season. Noukeu spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Southend United, where he was hailed as ‘unbelievable’ as he picked up four clean sheets in 13 matches in the National League. The 22-year-old is now without a club, but is hoping to win himself a contract at the Stadium of Light during his trial period. Do the Black Cats really need Blondy Noukeu?Given Noukeu’s age, it is surprising that Sunderland are considering snapping him up. Patterson is comfortably number one, while they have already brought in another back-up option in Moore. They also have the likes of Adam Richardson and Matty Young as younger options, who could potentially pick up some game-time in cup competitions. Noukeu is unlikely to earn himself a place in the first-team squad if he is signed, while it would be surprising if he wanted to join another Championship club where he is unlikely to make a single appearance. Fans will wait to make their judgement though, and will be keeping a close eye if he is still around to feature in Sunderland’s pre-season campaign. I think he is Ray, there are him and Clarke I’d be very surprised to still be in the squad come the close of the transfer window.

linkThe North London club are looking to reinforce their midfield with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso expected to be on the move. They need to add more quality to the centre of the park and believe signing Bellingham could be a great move given his versatility. Manager Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of the teenager and people at the club feel he could be a great addition for the long run. He is likely to be a squad player in the initial years and Bellingham could provide cover to James Maddison. Given his potential, he could soon establish himself as a starter. They have identified him as a primary target and with Sunderland looking for a fee of more than £20 million, it will be interesting to see if Spurs end up meeting their demands.

echoBlack Cats hold talks with experienced Championship and international midfielderPhil Smith Sunderland are looking to bolster their midfield ranks with the addition of an experienced Championship player Sunderland are keen on a deal to sign former Preston North End midfielder Alan Browne, The Echo understands. Browne is a free agent following his departure from Deepdale at the end of last season and the Black Cats believe he could be a strong addition to their squad as they look to push for a play-off place this season. Sunderland are looking to add Championship experience to the dressing room this summer to held bolster their young squad and Browne, who has over 300 second-tier appearances for North End, fits the bill perfectly. He is also an experienced international player, with 35 caps and five goals for the Republic of Ireland. It's understood that the 29-year-old has held positive initial talks with Sunderland and visited the region as he weighs up his next steps, though he does have other interest given his proven track record at the level. The Black Cats are keen on strengthening their central midfield options which are currently light following the departure of Corry Evans at the end of his contract. They have also held an interest in former Sheffield United midfielder Oliver Norwood. Speaking at his first press conference last week, new head coach Régis Le Bris confirmed the club's plan to add some second-tier experience to the squad: "We are thinking about one or two more experienced players, who know the Championship very well, for example, and have high standards when it comes to training. They can help dictate the way of playing, and lead the team during the game. These kind of players could be young or could be older." Speaking following Browne's departure last week, Preston boss Ryan Lowe paid tribute to a 'fantastic leader': "What I will say is that he's been a fantastic servant for the football club - 400 plus [appearances]. We were planning with and without him, in terms of transfers. He was a fantastic character around the place, a fantastic leader - and he did an unbelievable job for Preston North End. "But, we have to look further now and go past it. He has decided for a new challenge, which I as the manager ultimately respect - for him and his family. We wish him all the best for wherever he goes. Hopefully there is another one who can get into that 400 club in years to come, whether it's a new signing or a player who's already here."

linkSunderland set to sign midfielder with over 400 Championship appearancesDespite interest from the likes of Coventry City and Turkish side Goztepe, Sunderland look set to win the race for Browne, who has visited the north-east in recent days. The Irish Examiner reported last night that the midfielder is to undergo a medical at the Academy of Light today, meaning confirmation of his arrival is very likely to happen this week. Browne arrives at the club as only one of four players over the age of 25 years old. The ‘outstanding‘ Republic of Ireland international was a constant in Preston’s starting line-up and is unlikely to move to the Stadium of Light as a benchwarmer. Kristjaan Speakman looks to be firming up a high-quality midfield, with the likes of Dan Neil, Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg surely some of the first names on the team-sheet. Alan Browne is exactly what the Black Cats needLe Bris will have to move players around to assure they all fit in though, but it would still be a surprise if Jobe was expected to take up that No.9 role once again. Meanwhile, Rigg will surely be put back into his favoured position given he is one of the most talented players in the whole squad. Browne is very much an all-round midfielder and will add a bit of everything to the team. The fact that Sunderland have now brought in two signings with a combined age of 63 years old is finally a sign that they have understood the issue. A bit more experience in other positions and things will be looking very good and much more balanced.

Still need a couple of bloody front men.
I had high hopes of Hemir when he first came after looking at his YouTube videos, he's a big unit, on his videos he just shrugged off defender's, turned them and some of his goals were great finishing, he's got some power on his shooting, but alas he's not brought it with him, hoping the new coach can bring out the best in him.
Last season he just looked down, disinterested and lazy.

We haven't Les, but we have done the same for every striker we have had, playing a lone striker up front just constantly chasing down the ball, soul destroying, every coach has done it, only times we never done it is when we played Stewart and Simns up front and we terrorised defences and you know what happened after that 🙄 I'm not criticising the lad, feel sorry for him, just hope the new guy gives him the confidence and chance.

Full StoryWill Still wants to sign Sunderland star Dan Ballard at RC LensJournalist Michael Graham has revealed on X that Sunderland and Northern Ireland centre-back Dan Ballard is a ‘major summer target’ for Still’s RC Lens outfit. Former Arsenal man Ballard, 24, featured 43 times in the Championship last season and scored three goals. He played a key role for the Black Cats who ultimately had a disappointing season, finishing the campaign in 16th place of the table. Ballard has been linked with several Premier League teams since his 2022 move to the Stadium of Light, with West Ham among those previously linked. Why Sunderland man Dan Ballard may think twice about linking up with Will StillThere’s no doubting that Still remains a very exciting prospect in management, and that Lens seems like a very good move for him. But his actions in the Sunderland manager race and his previous actions at Reims, which caused a lot of unrest behind the scenes, may speak volumes about his temperament. Ballard is loved by Sunderland fans and Le Bris surely has big plans for the defender going forward. Swapping that to join a quite controversial Still at RC Lens would surely come with its risks; not to mention the fact that it’s a whole new league and a whole different style of football. So staying in England and at Sunderland where he’s making very good progress seems like the best bet for Ballard at this moment in time. That said, every player has a price, and if RC Lens put down what would surely need to be a sizeable sum then Ballard could well be on his way to Lens.

linkSunderland in ‘ongoing negotiations’ to sign 22-goal striker, but Saudi club also keenThe Black Cats have welcomed two new signings to the club so far this summer, wrapping up a free transfer deal for Alan Browne last week. Sunderland are eager to bring in some experience to their squad ahead of the new campaign, with fans desperate to see a proven goalscorer added to their ranks. Recent reports had claimed they were now prioritising a ‘senior striker’ and it now looks like their mission is well underway. Having spent a large chunk of their manager search in France, eventually bringing in Regis Le Bris, Sunderland have now returned to Western Europe in a bid to sign a new striker. According to Foot Mercato journalist Josue Casse, Sunderland have made a bid to sign Caen attacker Alexandre Mendy. He wrote on X: “A new club enters the dance for Alexandre Mendy. Sunderland sent an offer to Caen for the top scorer in L2 last season. “Ongoing negotiations between the Black Cats and Normandy management. Al-Riyadh also made an offer. “Imminent departure for the former Girondins de Bordeaux striker.” Mendy struggled to make his mark in France before joining Ligue 2 side Caen in 2020. The 30-year-old has since been a hit in front of goal, bagging a total of 65 goals and providing 11 assists in 142 appearances for the club. He also netted an impressive 22 goals in only 37 games last season, finishing as the Ligue 2 top goalscorer and was also named in the Ligue 2 Team of the Year. Can Alexandre Mendy replicate his form in the Championship? After failing to win promotion, Mendy looks set to leave Normandy and Sunderland are eager to snap him up. It’s unclear how much the striker will cost the Black Cats, though his age will surely contribute to his fee. Little is known about Mendy on Wearside, but his goal tally in Ligue 2 is certainly very attractive. The French second division certainly shouldn’t be looked down at either, having produced the likes of Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante. Georges Mikautadze finished as the 2022/23 top scorer and has since gone onto impress at the European Championships, earning himself a reported move to Lyon. Mendy’s age could be of concern, but if the club can snap him up for a fair sum then it could be worth the risk. He definitely adds some experience and could well be a player that Le Bris is eager to sign himself. Competition from the Saudi Pro League could be tough though, as the Black Cats have absolutely no chance if he favours a big pay cheque towards the end of his career.

Roker Report Caen reject Sunderland bid for striker Alexandre MendySunderland have had a bid rejected for SM Caen striker Alexandre Mendy, according to reports in France. Sport in Caen claim that the French club have received two offers for Ligue 2’s top scorer from last season, one from Sunderland and one from Saudi Arabian outfit Al Riyadh, but both were below their valuation. The report claims that Al Riyadh offered less than €500,000 for a player who is under contract until 2026, with Sunderland’s bid said to be under the €1m mark. Mendy scored 22 goals in Ligue 2 last season, seven goals clear of the next best goalscorer, and is expected to leave the French club this summer. While his future is being sorted, he was not involved in the pre-season game against Nantes, will also miss Saturday’s game against Annecy and is training on his own in Caen, rather than with his team-mates in Switzerland. The 30-year-old scored 16 in Ligue 2 during the 2021-22 season and 19 in 2022-23, with 65 goals in total, and providing 11 assists, since signing for Caen in 2020.

Less than €1m for the league’s top goal scorer - not a serious offer.

full reportSunderland are ‘very keen’ to sign Daniel Jebbison on loanSunderland AFC News understands that Kristjaan Speakman and the club’s recruitment staff have been following Daniel Jebbison for some time. One source claimed that Sunderland are among multiple Championship teams who are ‘very keen’ to sign him on loan this summer, despite his recent move to Bournemouth. A permanent deal has been ruled out following his arrival at the Vitality Stadium, with the Cherries viewing him as a likely heir to Dominic Solanke. However, they could consider sending him to the Championship on loan and the Black Cats are one of a number of clubs interested in snapping him up. Jebbison joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United, having come up through the academy to make his senior debut in 2021. The attacker scored his first goal the following week and became the youngest player to score in their first start in the Premier League. Jebbison spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Burton Albion, where he netted seven goals in League One. He went onto make 16 appearances for the Blades in the Championship, but managed only one appearance following their promotion due to injuries and illness. Despite that, he earned himself a move to Bournemouth on a free transfer after failing to agree a new contract at Bramall Lane. Would Bournemouth want to send Jebbison straight back to the Championship? The Cherries have already signed Enes Unal, while Solanke is one of the first names on the team-sheet. Jebbison is unlikely to earn himself many minutes and Bournemouth may feel a full season back in the Championship could benefit him in the long run. The ‘fantastic’ youngster is yet to establish himself as a proven goal-scorer though, so it seems extremely unlikely that he would be a regular in Sunderland’s team at the start of the campaign. That could well put Bournemouth off from allowing him to move to the Stadium of Light, as they would surely prefer him to be picking up regular starts after featuring for only 20 minutes for the Blades in over a year.
