www.safc.com/news/team-news/2019/april/team-news-v-coventry-cityMcGeouch out of Sky Blues clashSunderland will be without midfielder Dylan McGeouch for Saturday’s home match with Coventry City, according to assistant manager James Fowler. Following a string of eye-catching displays in the middle of the park at Accrington Stanley and Rochdale, the Scotsman was forced off with a muscular injury to his abdomen in Tuesday’s stalemate with Burton Albion. Speaking at the club’s pre-Coventry City press conference, Fowler provided an update on the Glaswegian before revealing the latest on midfielder Chris Maguire, who returned to training at the Academy of Light today. “Injuries are largely much the same as they were,” he said. “One or two have been back in doing light training today, but Dylan McGeouch has got a strain from Tuesday night and will miss the weekend. “Chris Maguire trained today,” he continued. “That’s the first time he’s been back on the training pitch. We’re glad to see him back, but he’s still a little short of fitness and match sharpness. “We’ll see how he’s feeling today and tomorrow after training. He’s been out a while and once you come back in within the group you see where you are match sharpness wise. We’re working with him to get him back as quickly as we can. “Aiden McGeady and Lee Cattermole are still injury doubts as well. Still got niggles and will be assessed over the next 24 hours to see how they are for Saturday.”

www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/coventry-city-set-groundshare-uncertainty-16116517Coventry City set to groundshare as uncertainty over League One club's future draws to conclusionFans pack the away end during Sunderland's last visit to Coventry City's Ricoh Arena home (Image: Sunderland AFC) Coventry City are close to resolving where they will be playing next season – and it looks unlikely to be the Ricoh Arena. The League One side had until Thursday to provide the Football League with an update on their plans as their wrangle with the owners of their home ground continued. The Sky Blues, who play at Sunderland on Saturday, have told the league they are close to “the head of terms stage” with two clubs about a possible groundshare for next season. “While it remains our number one priority to stay, we can confirm that unfortunately the Ricoh Arena is not one of the venues,” confirmed a club statement. The Ricoh Arena was built to host Coventry in 2005 but their time there has been fraught with trouble, even before rugby union club Wasps bought the ground in November 2014. Coventry’s owners, Sisu are pursuing legal action against Coventry City Council, owners of the freehold, over the decision to sell to Wasps. The latter are refusing to discuss extending Coventry’s stay beyond this season until the threat to take the matter to the Supreme Court is dropped. Sisu have already been defeated in the High Court and Court of Appeal over the matter. Coventry have had to groundshare before since moving to the 32,753-capacity ground, which hosted matches at the 2012 Olympics. In 2013-14 they played at Northampton Town’s Sixfields because the owners of the Ricoh refused to accept the terms of a company voluntary agreement. Sisu had entered into dispute with them in late 2012 over unpaid rents and a lack of access to matchday revenue. Coventry’s announcement reduces the threat of expulsion from League One, which is a possibility if the authorities decide at their April 25 board meeting that no satisfactory solution has been reached. To be at the head of terms stage effectively means that agreement is all but reached in principle. The Sky Blues are eight points outside the League One play-off places with five matches remaining.

Sunderland v Coventry City Preview
It’s time for fire up our city once more as Coventry City come to the Stadium of Light for the latest test in our promotion push.
A midweek draw at home to Burton Albion halted our three-game winning run in League One but saw us move into second, at the expense of Barnsley.
A point clear in the automatic promotion spots, three points are crucial three weekend with the Tykes and Portsmouth still firmly hot on Sunderland’s heels.
Undefeated in the league at the Stadium of Light this season, the Black Cats will be looking to stretch that run further while also setting a new club record of going 20 domestic games without loss.
With just six games left in the regular season, Sunderland have lost just twice so far with their last league loss coming back in December 2018 when they fell to a 3-1 defeat at rivals Pompey.
Since then the Lads have battled their way into second place, taking 10 points from a possible 12. Seven of those have come in the last 10 days following Sunderland’s Checkatrade Trophy Final defeat on penalties to Kenny Jackett’s Portsmouth in March.
For tomorrow though, the Lads will be without Dylan McGeouch. Following a string of eye-catching displays in the middle of the park at Accrington Stanley and Rochdale, the Scotsman was forced off with a muscular injury to his abdomen in Tuesday’s stalemate with Burton Albion.
A late decision will be made on whether Aiden McGeady or Lee Cattermole will be fit enough to return.
Coventry City, meanwhile, head to the Stadium of Light on the back of two draws and without a win in their last three matches. That’s seen the Sky Blues’ play-off hopes drift of late, with the gap to sixth place Doncaster Rovers now standing at eight points.
With just two wins in their last six matches, Mark Robins’ side know the value of three points if they are to ignite their faint tops six hopes.
