I hope Ross sticks with last nights formation and doesn't revert to 9 defenders.
Give sterling a run in the starting 11 as well.

Yes in place of Wykes or Gooch Hope he sticks with the same team Les and doesn't bring back Catts / Leadbitter / Honeyman in midfield. I think Catts is carrying an injury but the problem with Honeyman is he is the captain so I would have thought it difficult to drop him - unless he is still suspended. Leadbitter might fit the team because he does at least look to go forward.

www.safc.com/news/team-news/2019/april/team-news-v-rochdaleInjury update including the latest on McGeady's fitnessJack Ross has revealed there's some concern over the fitness of Aiden McGeady going into this weekend. The Republic of Ireland international, who has scored three goals in his last two games, was taken off at half-time in Wednesday's win at Accrington Stanley. While Ross refused to reveal the extent of McGeady's injury at his pre-match press conference this morning, he did admit there's some doubt over his fitness while Lee Cattermole and Reece James remain sidelined for the trip to Spotland. “The only one that comes back into the squad is George Honeyman, who has completed his suspension," he said. "Reece James and Lee Cattermole miss out, along with Adam Matthews, Chris Maguire and Duncan Watmore. "We have a couple of other concerns, Aiden McGeady being one of them. We’ll look at that over the course of the day." He continued: “We took Will off on Wednesday but that was just a combination of his ankle and fatigue because he hasn’t trained an awful lot. When we have the opportunity to bring him off or not start him it’s important to look at doing that because he is important for us. “He looks to be getting into that little groove and his goal on Wednesday helps that but if there’s an opportunity to look after him in the game or because he might be fatigued then we will manage each game that comes along.”

www.safc.com/news/team-news/2019/april/match-preview-v-rochdaleMatch Preview The weekend is here and Sunderland’s promotion bid for set for another examination, with Rochdale ready and waiting. Wednesday’s win over Accrington Stanley was sweet. In a game where the Lads went into it with the pressure sky high, after last Sunday’s penalty shootout defeat to Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy Final, Jack Ross’ side showed plenty of grit and resolve as they brushed aside their opponents at the Wham Stadium. Aiden McGeady smacked home a beauty with just four minutes on the clock to give Sunderland a deserved advantage after they flew out the traps, with Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke both going close in the opening minutes. Grigg got his goal, though. An unorthodox route one punt down field from stopper Jon McLaughlin bounced kindly for the striker and the striker oozed class as he rolled the ball through the ‘keepers’ legs to double the lead on the stroke of half-time. Second-half substitute Kaz Sterling then had the red and white army smiling once more as he bagged his first goal in senior football to round off a pleasing night for the Lads. Now just three points off Barnsley with two games in hand – the race for promotion is on. Up next, Rochdale… Sitting 23rd in the table, Dale have had a turn of fortunates recently under the caretaker stewardship of Brian Barry-Murphy and are unbeaten in their last four matches having taken eight points. Prior to that, a run of 12 games where they had taken just four points, led to the sacking of Keith Hill, left them in the relegation zone with seven games to game. Unbeaten in the league since December, Ross’ side will be targeting maximum points once more with Luton Town playing play-off contenders Blackpool and Barnsley away at Burton Albion. Sunderland remain without Lee Cattermole and Reece James while there’s some doubt over the fitness of Aiden McGeady who went off at half-time on Wednesday. Chris Maguire, Adam Matthews and Duncan Watmore remain out as well. DON’T MISS THE ACTION Sunderland take on Rochdale at Spotland at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. Streaming passes are also on sale now. BBC Radio Newcastle’s Nick Barnes will be broadcasting live right here on safc.com from 7pm. As ever, there will be comprehensive coverage across our digital channels including safc.com’s matchday blog and live updates on Twitter via @sunderlandafc.

www.safc.com/news/team-news/2019/april/rochdale/team-news-v-rochdaleAiden McGeady isn’t fit to face Rochdale today at the Crown Oil Arena, meaning Jack Ross makes one enforced change to his starting XI. Lewis Morgan, who provided an assist in a lively cameo at the Wham Stadium last time out, returns to the fold, with Lynden Gooch lining up on the opposite flank. Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke resume their partnership up top, as Dylan McGeouch and Max Power retain their places in the centre of midfield. Denver Hume also starts against the Dale. The Sunderland boss has also named a strong bench despite notable absences in McGeady, Chris Maguire, Duncan Watmore and Lee Cattermole, with Bryan Oviedo, Grant Leadbitter, George Honeyman and Kaz Sterling held in reserve. Sunderland AFC: McLaughlin, Flanagan, Baldwin, O’Nien, Hume, McGeouch, Power, Morgan, Gooch, Wyke, Grigg.Subs not used: Ruiter, Oviedo, Ozturk, Honeyman, Leadbitter, Sterling, Dunne.
