Important games now. Not only does the season depend on them but also Ross's future should too.

Important games now. Not only does the season depend on them but also Ross's future should too. Ross' brief at the start of the season was a top 6 finish, so he's accomplished that. Don't think his job is on the line if we don't go up, but he'll be under real pressure to get off to a flyer next season if we don't.

And if it was, would that be why he hasn't chased top two more strongly? Surely the owners should & would alter the aim as the season has gone on?

I know you shouldn't believe all that you hear, but it's what they commentators were saying yesterday, and when you look at it, I think the majority of fans would have accepted a top 6 finish on the back of the last two years.

I can see this game becoming a big banana skin, the players need to pick themselves up and from playing on good pitch at a full house Wembley to Accrington will be a bit of a culture shock

Well I for one would not have accepted top 6 in this league, top two or you're out the door would have been my brief to Ross at the start out. Harsh, but understandable. Why harsh? New owners, new players, new optimism, new season, quality squad for this division, class support and stadium. Teams should have been crapping themselves against us.

Jack Ross has ramped up the significance of Sunderlandâs trip to Accrington Stanley on Wednesday evening. Penalty pain was endured on Sunday in the Checkatrade Trophy Final as Portsmouth defeated the Black Cats in front of a sold-out Wembley crowd. While the Black Cats returned to Wearside on Monday still sore from the loss, Ross has wasted no time in switching his mindset to tomorrowâs trip to the Wham Stadium. Taking on Accrington Stanley, a win is top of the agenda with just nine league game remaining as the race for promotion to the Championship enters a decisive month. âWe spoke before the final that irrespective of how the game panned out, Wednesday was going to be huge for us,â Ross said. âThat was never going to change, and it was always our mindset. âWhen you lose a game in the manner we did, itâs important to give the lads some space and time to spend with their families. âThey need that time because very quickly the attention switches to Wednesday and then Saturdayâs in these massive league games we have ahead. âThereâs a lot of plus points for us to take from the final," he continued. "We need to let the soreness subside and then we will prepare for Wednesdayâs trip to Accrington.â

Accrington have played 7 games since making us look like a bunch of misfits. They've lost 6 of them.
Lump your money on a home win.

www.safc.com/news/team-news/2019/april/team-news-pre-accrington-stanleyRoss provides Maguire fitness updateJack Ross is hopeful Chris Maguire will be back available for Sunderlandâs home match with Coventry City later this month. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since the Black Catsâ 4-2 win over Gillingham with a fractured fibula. While a return in Sundayâs Checkatrade Trophy Final at Wembley wasnât to be, speaking at todayâs press conference ahead of Wednesdayâs trip to Accrington Stanley, Ross revealed he is hoping to have Maguire back available at the end of next week. The Scot also offered the latest team news for the trip to the Wham Stadium, with George Honeyman once again suspended. âAdam Matthews remains out,â he said. âObviously, he didnât make Sundayâs game because he had a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury on Friday. We thought he was going to be fit for Sunday but had a reoccurrence in training. âDuncan (Watmore) and Chris (Maguire) remain out and Donald Love is still working his way back to full fitness. âWe have doubts over a few more but weâll give ourselves another 24 hours âtil we make a final decision on them.â He continued: âChris is getting closer. He actually made really good progress but itâs just a case of taking our time with ramping it up, so he is in a position again to play football. âHe tried to push for the final, but we quickly discovered he was nowhere near that. He accepted that and then itâs been about targeting a league game. âIf things continue on schedule, we hope to have him back available for the Coventry game.â
