Le Bris 'proud' to receive league award
Sunderland AFC Head Coach Régis Le Bris has shared his pride at being named August’s Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month but insisted the reward is for the start and nothing more.
Le Bris, who joined the Black Cats over the summer, has quickly made his mark, guiding the Black Cats to an unbeaten league run throughout August.
Victories over Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Portsmouth saw the Lads hit the Championship’s summit before September’s international break, and while the Frenchman is proud of his side’s efforts so far he knows the mindset must remain firmly on the task in hand ahead of Saturday’s trip to Plymouth Argyle.
“It is a reward for the start,” he said.
“We need to enjoy it when it is positive because when it is negative it is very hard. We need to enjoy it but not too much. I like the feeling with the squad, the staff, and the Club.”
“We will have many strong games, but it is important to assess the potential and the improvement of the team,” he continued.
“Maybe we will lose some games, too. That is possible. If the mindset stays at the same level, then we will have many good emotions.”
Following the conclusion of a two-week international break domestic action returns this weekend, with Sunderland facing a mighty 800-mile round trip to Home Park.
The Lads, who have made their best start to a league season for 99 years, will be aiming to make it five successive wins from their opening handful of games - a feat last managed by Cardiff City in 2017-18 under Neil Warnock.
“We have a good foundation," Le Bris added.
"The willingness to improve is there, but we need to maintain this mindset.
“We will have good moments and bad moments, but if this way of thinking is stable, then we will have the possibility to reach our potential.
“It isn’t just a question of age with our players. It is a question of potential and willingness to improve.
“With young players, we don’t have previous games to look back on, but it is almost more exciting. When this feeling is within a group, it is very exciting to understand how they can build new competencies.”
