safcMatete seals Bolton loanSunderland AFC midfielder Jay Matete has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan. The 23-year-old will spend the 2024-25 season at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, as Ian Evatt’s side set their sights on a return to the Sky Bet Championship. Matete, who moved to the Stadium of Light in January 2022, returns to the third tier targeting his third promotion from the division after helping SAFC and Plymouth Argyle achieve the feat. Kristjaan Speakman: “Jay’s had a difficult 12 months with injury, but he has worked hard to return this summer in the best condition. He’s had a solid pre-season from a physical perspective and with a new season about to commence, he is eager to play regularly. We wish him well with this loan opportunity and look forward to seeing him back enjoying his football and progressing.”

He's one player I never rated when we bought him. But before his last injury he had a run of games where he played well and looked a decent player, he gives 100% that's for sure, more than I can say for some of our squad. He's still a lad and this can only do him good.
