We were all over them at their place at the start of the season we just couldn’t put the ball in the net. Hopefully this time we will.

Les, after the last game, what makes you think we can put the ball into the back of their net 😆

What I would like him to do is have the bottle to drop Clarke and force the team to play differently and not down the left hand side of the pitch

"It's the only position that interested me" Edited edition "It's the only position I've been offered " Interview went like this: Well Michael here's the deal * you are not going to get any more strikers in January. * you will have no say in who comes in or out of the club. * you will be paid minimum wage. What do you think? Beale; "I'll take it"

SAFCBeale on Coventry clashMichael Beale faced the media on Wednesday ahead of his first game as Head Coach on Saturday. The Lads host Coventry City looking to make it three wins in the past four Championship fixtures. Hear from the Gaffer ahead of Saturday’s game… Beale on Coventry City I'm really looking forward to the game at the weekend, I think it's a difficult game. They are a very good team and they got to the play-off final last season. They have the same ambition as us and it’s a fantastic way to end my first week here. I lived quite close to Coventry when I worked at Aston Villa and QPR, so I went to a couple of their games. I know through people behind the scenes they are 100% behind Mark (Robins) and his staff because they know the incredible work he does. It was a similar start last season; they didn't start so well, and they had issues with the pitch but then they went on a fantastic run. They lost two incredible players, one to the Premier League and one to a huge club like Sporting Lisbon. I have no doubts that Coventry with Mark Robins’ experience, alongside his assistant Adil Viveash are going to be up the top end of the table come the end of the season. Every day that we are in front of Coventry is a good place for us to be at Sunderland. Beale on his Sunderland squad and what to expect under his leadership There are a lot of players here that make me want to get out of bed in the morning and come to work. When you look at the squad of players you've got, you have to be excited about coming into the building and working for such a fantastic club. It's a team that's pleasing on the eye at the moment and we want to continue that. I don't think there will be any radical changes, it's just adding one or two things to a team that's already in a good place. We have a young group that love playing football, so I'm looking forward to the games immensely. On walking out at the Stadium of Light for the first time on Saturday When I arrived with QPR the guys that received us when we came through the main doors were so warm, it was fantastic and then when we went out onto the pitch you feel the strength of the crowd. Who would have thought in that short time, Alex (Neil) has left, and Tony (Mowbray) has come in and done a good job and now I'm here at the club. It's going to be a proud day and I'm really delighted that the first game is at home.

SAFCBeale set for first game as Head CoachNewly-appointed Sunderland Head Coach Michael Beale will take charge of his first match this weekend when Coventry City visit the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon in the Sky Bet Championship. The Black Cats will be looking to record their third straight home win following recent victories over West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United - a feat the Lads last achieved over 18 months ago. Opposition The Sky Blues have collected 27 points from 22 games and currently sit 15th in the Sky Bet Championship. Mark Robins’ side have registered six wins, nine draws and suffered seven defeats so far this campaign. The visitors are currently on a strong run of form having lost just once in their last seven league outings. Club record signing Haji Wright and experienced centre-forward Matt Godden lead the way with goals, the pair have each netted six times to date. Despite the Sky Blues’ league position, Robins’ side maintains one of the Championship's tightest defences having conceded just 25 goals. Only Leicester City (16), Leeds United (22), West Brom (22), Sunderland (24) and Bristol City (24) hold a more resolute backline. Sunderland’s last victory over Coventry City came back in 2007 when Dwight Yorke and Carlos Edwards’ goals sealed a 2-0 home win. Team News Sunderland have no fresh injury concerns following last Saturday’s trip to Ashton Gate. Timothée Pembélé, Aji Alese, and Jay Matete all returned to action on Monday evening for the Under-21s, but Saturday’s game is likely to come too soon. Chris Rigg could be in line for a return to the Black Cats matchday squad, the 16-year-old has not featured for the first team since October’s home win over Norwich City.
👏 Captain Corry Evans, Dennis Cirkin, and Elliot Embleton all remain out as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.

I would like to see the Young lad play some part in the game. Seen him a few times Les coming on in a cameo role, he looked keen and put himself about, not frightened to mix it with the big boys, he's skilful as well, but last time out he looked a bit lost probably played out of position. I would like to see him given a longer time on the pitch.
