www.safc.com/news/team-news/2019/may/ross-on-southend-united-defeatRoss seeks big improvements ahead of play-offsJack Ross admitted his players must be much better than what they showed in their final day defeat at Southend United on Saturday. The Shrimpers preserved their Sky Bet League One status for another season, defeating Sunderland 2-1 at Roots Hall. That saw the Lads slip to fifth, meaning they now face Portsmouth in the play-off semi-final next Saturday with big improvements required if they are to achieve their goal of promotion this term. “We were really poor at Southend - first half in particular - however we haven’t performed poorly (recently) with the exception of the latter part of the Fleetwood game,” Ross admitted. “It was a reality check for some of us, individually and as a team, and a reminder of the levels we need to be at. “We haven’t dipped below them all that often this season but today we were well below them and we were beaten by a hungrier team. "We have not gone into the play-offs on the back of a positive feeling because our performance at Southend was a long way short. “We didn’t play well not by a long stretch.,” he continued. “It was a reality check for some of us, individually and as a team, and a reminder of the levels we need to be at. “You are always judged on the end result, and in the last few games we have either drawn them or lost them but the performance has been ok so that has been a bit more positive, but when the two go hand-in-hand (poor performance and poor result) I can be a lot more critical.”

It's been mentioned elsewhere. We simply haven't played well for a full 90 minutes in any game we've played this season.
Only deluded fools think otherwise

We are a one half team, when we play well for the half we need to finish teams off, but we have not been able to, this needs to change but wont change so just have to hope we finish Portsmouth and Charlton/Doncaster off if we get that far.
